Acqua Panna embraces the CEO Carbon Neutral Challenge
Acqua Panna has long been concerned with the protection of water springs and their natural surroundings. This is an ongoing and tangible commitment which has triggered the desire to achieve Carbon Neutrality in all company activities by 2022. A goal pursued with determination, combined with the decision to address climate change and safeguard the environment.
For this reason, Acqua Panna has chosen to participate in the “CEO Carbon Neutral Challenge”, launched by means of an open letter from Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci. The proposal is addressed to all companies operating in all lines of business, to implement a shared action plan in favour of the climate and nature. The request, therefore, is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to assume responsibility for all emissions, while compensating all remaining emissions pertaining to business activities and the entire supply chain with solutions aimed at preserving and restoring the natural environment.
"We have enthusiastically accepted the invitation extended by Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci, to join the “CEO Carbon Neutral Challenge” because we believe that the only way to address climate change, restore biodiversity and safeguard the planet is that of pooling our efforts to pursue the goal of reducing the emissions we generate,” announced Stefano Marini, CEO of the Sanpellegrino group, who went on to say ”it is an act of responsibility towards our planet and towards future generations”.
The action steps taken by Acqua Panna in favour of sustainability
The topic of sustainability and environmental protection is one of the founding values of S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, as testified by their longstanding commitment to activities that will lead to neutralizing emissions through reduction and offsetting measures in the areas of production, packaging, logistics and natural capital.
The activities implemented in favour of sustainability and the environment, a topic that is particularly dear to the group, are extremely numerous. Of these, one that stands out is the immense project undertaken by Sanpellegrino to reduce consumption in its production plants: in fact, in the last 9 years, thanks to the use of electricity from renewable sources, CO2 emissions have been reduced by about 60%.
Another essential aspect regards the bottles, which are 100% recyclable. What’s more, Sanpellegrino is proud to be one of the first companies in Italy to have produced bottles entirely from recycled plastic.
Of no minor importance is the sustainable management of the areas close to the springs and the protection of water resources and biodiversity. A perfect example in this respect is our precious collaboration with the Scuola Sant'Anna di Pisa and Federparchi to quantify the carbon dioxide removed and to reinforce its absorption in the Acqua Panna estate, a green lung of 1,300 hectares in the Mugello area.
Finally, our activities also include the work effected to obtain, by the end of 2022, the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) certification, the international standard for our industry, a further source of pride and commitment towards an ever improved responsible management of water resources.
A commitment that continues today, also through our participation in the CEO Carbon Neutral Challenge, because we believe it is of fundamental importance to address the critical issue of climate change, on a par with our other corporate values.
